Our Gardens

Picture this garden
It is an old garden
This grass is richly green
As it is an old garden
The plants are grown
The patio slabs embroidered with tiny leaves
There she sits
In the corner of this garden
The swing does not move
And the light in the shed is not on
The lights of the house are not on
There she sits in the corner of this garden.

Picture this garden
This is a younger garden
The grass is patchy
But the flowers and the fruit trees grow passionately
And each peach drops heavily
And the flags waves fervently
On a spring morning
The decking creeks
And the pots fall and roll
There he sits
And the cat curls about his feet
Cigarette tipped between fingers
And the cat curled about his feet.
