Corners

A quality in the sharp night air
Prevents intake of breath
And sharp looks between door and wall
Sharp sight bleeds at edges
And tempts shadows into corners
This is the page
And here I write a page of safe writing
To heighten senses
And coax breath into corners and onto window pains
Take the first example
Bird man and Sheep man
Both fine examples
He weeps into corners
The lines that follow
And the lines that do not
Mouse-curtained windows
And crack in the wall metaphors
Before I fall asleep.
